The intricate network of coastal waterways that make up the Salish Sea include parts of Canada in the southwestern regions and the US state of Washington in its northwestern area. The Salish Sea is made up of three major bodies of water: the Strait of Georgia, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Puget Sound. Each of these bodies of water are separated from the open Pacific Ocean—making it perfectly positioned for major port cities like Vancouver, Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, Victoria, and Port Angeles. Additionally, an impressive 253 species of fish have been observed by scientists either in marine or in the brackish waters of the Salish Sea’s diverse ecosystem.
